Obituary for Josephine Masullo

Josephine Masullo
Josephine "Dodie" Elizabeth Masullo (née Keller) passed away peacefully in Collingswood, NJ, on Friday, February 2, 2018, at the age of 97.
A native of Grand Rapids, MI, she was the fourth child of Elizabeth and Venus Keller. She was born on February 14, 1920, just minutes before her identical twin sister Martha Jayne Lenny. She attended primary school and Central High School in Grand Rapids and continued her education, graduating from Davenport Business College also in Grand Rapids.
As a young girl, her mother sent her and her sisters Martha Jayne and Barbara to Phil Osterhaus' School of Dance where they learned acrobatics, ballet and tap dancing. The three sisters were professional dancers from childhood in Grand Rapids through their twenties when the sisters moved to Oaklyn, NJ, and performed in Atlantic City and Philadelphia area clubs, such as Palumbo's, and danced for the WWII USO canteen services.
Dodie also worked for RCA in Camden, NJ, for eleven years as a secretary which she loved.
She married Alfred V. Masullo on January 20, 1951, at St. Aloysius Church in Oaklyn, NJ, and then moved to his native Brooklyn, NY, where they raised their six children until they moved to Cherry Hill, NJ, and later Haddonfield, NJ.
Dodie was a devoted, kind and loving wife and mother. She was fond of children, animals, drives in the country, chocolates, playing the "one-armed bandits" at the casino, propagating plants and yard sales. One of her daily tasks was to write letters to her sisters, children and friends who lived outside of NJ. She wanted people to know they were thought of and important. Dodie was friendly, kind and genuine, always wanting to help and cheer those near and far. Her greatest joy was her family. She lived a long, humble and simple life.
She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Mc Kelvey and Martha Jayne Lenny of Vienna, VA; and her six children: Loretta (Robert) Comfort of Seattle, WA; Elizabeth (Todd) Warden of Woodbury, NJ; Patrice (Joseph) Ranero of Haddonfield, NJ; Alfred (Sharyn) Masullo of Haddonfield, NJ; Annie Masullo of San Francisco, CA; and Kathleen Damirgian (Louis) Ucciferri of Cherry Hill, NJ; and her twelve grandchildren: Damien (Lauren) Ranero; Adam (Katie) Comfort; Ryan (Mayuri) Warden; Kelly Ranero; Lisa Warden (Eli Moore); Christian Masullo; Eric (Jennifer) Warden; Laura Masullo; Noelle (Chris) Butler; Cara Masullo; Krista Damirgian; and Dana Damirgian; and her six great- grandchildren: Layla Warden; Grace Comfort; Lauchlan Moore; Valin Warden; Alexander Ranero; and Phillippa Josephine Comfort; and many nieces and nephews.
She is pre-deceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Alfred; her parents, Elizabeth and Venus; her brother Russell Keller; and her sister, Frances Graves.
The family would like to thank the staff of Collingswood Manor for the friendship, love and care they provided our sweet Josephine during the last five years.

A private service will be held for the family. Your prayers are most welcomed as Dodie transitions to her next life.
In lieu of flowers, those who would like to honor Dodie may wish to make a donation in her name to the UMC Collingswood Fellowship Fund at Collingswood Manor, 460 Haddon Avenue, Collingswood, NJ 08108.
