Obituary

Sophia Elizabeth (Roman) Krajewski, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 10, 1922 and passed away on February 5, 2020, five days short of her 98th birthday. Sophia attended Wilmington Art School with a full scholarship upon her graduation from high school and continued her creative talents until well into her nineties; she not only exhibited her talents in her home while raising a family but also opened Sophia's Creative Fashions in Haddon Heights, New Jersey in 1957 when her four children were between the ages of 6 and 14. She maintained Sophia's Creative Fashions for 37 years, closing in 1994.

Sophia loved style and dressed with flair and pizzazz. She strove to be best-dressed at parties and social events, the grocery store and even the doctor's office. It is who she was.

Sophia was a renaissance woman with many talents, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her talents did not stop there, she loved to travel and all who knew her would see the sparkle in her eyes when she was planning a new adventure. She did not dream about the Seven Wonders of the World but saved her pennies and traveled the Seven Wonders of the World from Aruba, Barbados, Martinique, Mexico, Hawaii, Poland, Spain, Italy, Ireland to name a few. And please, let us not forget that Sophia sat at a table in Las Vegas with Elvis Presley and played bridge at the same table as Omar Sharif in Egypt.

Before Sophia opened her dress shop in 1957 you could hear her sewing machine in constant motion doing alterations and making beautiful hand-beaded wedding gowns for her sisters' weddings. She also made suits for her sons, dresses for her daughters, curtains and bedspreads for her home. Her creative talents did not stop there, she was a master at wallpapering. When she wasn't working at her business you could find Sophia in her garden planting tulips, daffodils, crocuses, hyacinths to name a few and every Spring planting a vegetable garden. Her hands were never still. She grew organic and was a recycler before those terms were ever created. If she wasn't in the garden or in her dress shop you could find her in the kitchen creating some of her best meals from what most of us would consider an empty refrigerator.

Sophia adored her siblings. From her stories, you knew Sophia and her sisters were a mix of Little Women and the Musketeers - brave, competent, trendsetting and there for each other through thick and thin.

Sophia had an astonishing love of family. She relished corresponding and always had a stash of cards, letters and pictures from nieces, nephews and second cousins once removed. She loved staying connected, wrote cards and sent news and the return correspondence would make her day. She loved her extended family with an enthusiastic joy.

Sophia is survived by her sons, Philip (Ellen) of Eastport, Maine and David (Dawn) of Audubon, New Jersey; her daughters, Karen of Longs, South Carolina and Lisa Schanz of Kapa'a, Hawaii; seven grandsons, Robert, John, Joshua Giamporcaro, Peta Krajewski, Roman and Frederick (Jayden) Krajewski and David Krajewski, II; eight granddaughters, Devon Rotter, Camille Schanz, Alexandria and Angelina Krajewski, Shannon and Alyssa Krajewski, Vinca and Evangeline Krajewski; great grandsons Zachary and Luca Giamporcaro, great granddaughters Danielle Rotter, Angelina Eckert and Isabella Giamporcaro and great-great grandson, Kaden Giamporcaro. Sophia was preceded in death by her son, Frederick Joseph Krajewski, great grandchildren, Abigaille and Giovanni Giamporcaro and former husband, Manual Joseph Krajewski.

A passage from The Traveler by James Dillet Freeman: "Our life did not begin with birth, it is not of this earth; and this that we call death, it is no more than the opening and closing of a door..."

Sophia lived a life well traveled and was and will remain loved by her family.

When I see this picture of Sophia here - it reminds me of what Princess Diana would have looked like in her elder years.
I am very saddened over the loss of Sophia and I pray that our heavenly Father has opened the gates to heaven and given Sophia a new role.
Creating beautiful dresses for the angels all over the Universe. ( With just a simple thought and not actually sitting at a sewing machine)
God Bless you Sophia and may you rest in peace.
